A SPECIAL LINCOLN'S BIRTHDAY ARTIFACT VIEWING VIGIL (one-night only)
February 11, 2010, 5:30 pm to 10:00 pm
Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum
Admission is free
Several one-of-a-kind original artifacts will be displayed for a limited time in the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum in Springfield during the days surrounding Lincoln's 201st birthday, including a special after-hours viewing vigil that will offer the Emancipation Proclamation and the inkwell Lincoln used to write his First Inaugural Address.

"Team of Rivals" will open just prior to the 150th anniversary of Lincoln's election as President in November 2010, has Farewell Address to Springfield as President-elect in February 2011, and the start of the Civil War in April 2011.

Join Tom Hanks, our lead sponsor AT&T, and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library foundation board of Directors in honoring NASA astronaut James A. Lovell, Jr., with the presentation of the third Lincoln Leadership Prize. The prestigious award takes on additional significance as this year marks the 40th anniversary of Lovell's command of Apollo 13.
Among America's heroic astronauts, Lovell is regarded as a leader of near mythic proportion, maintaining calm and discipline aboard Apollo 13 while the mission experienced monumental equipment failures that threatened to leave the crew stranded in outer space. Commander Lovell and his crew successfully modified their lunar module into an effective lifeboat, assuring their survival in space and their safe return to Earth.
Lovell, an experienced navy aviator and test pilot prior to being selected for the Gemini program, served in various command positions during four space missions including pilot and navigator on the Apollo 8's six-day journey to the Moon, backup commander to Neil Armstrong for the Apollo 11, and commander of Apollo 13. In 1994 Lovell and Jeff Kluger wrote Lost Moon, which was re-released as Apollo 13 and filmed in 1995 with Tom Hanks playing to role of Jim Lovell.

Seth Grahame-Smith will appear at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum (ALPLM) in Springfield, Illinois as one of the first stops on the release tour for his new book, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. The new book follows on the heels of Grahame-Smith's Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which reached number three on the New York Times Bestseller List in 2009.
It follows the formula Grahame-Smith used in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, weaving accurate historical detail and classical literature with tales of the undead. The result is an entertaining and educational blend of history and fantasy that should bring the Lincoln story to an entirely new audience.
Copies of Grahame-Smith's books may be purchased that evening and in advance at the Presidential Museum Gift Shop.

TEAM OF RIVALS
Lincoln's Cabinet at the Crossroads of War
October 14, 2010 — August 15, 2011
Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum
A Civil War Sesquicentennial Exhibition
Commemorate the beginning of the Civil War Sesquicentennial with a visit to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum for its one-of-a-kind temporary exhibition.
What is it like to be President… when faced with a decision for war?
This exhibition takes you inside the highest levels of the United States government as Abraham Lincoln and his cabinet struggle with the momentous issue of war. Restricted to the information they possessed at the time, you will confront the perplexities and options they faced during the first weeks of Lincoln's presidency - and decide for yourself if they made the right choices…
Following the approach so skillfully employed by Doris Kearns Goodwin in her critically acclaimed book Team of Rivals, the exhibition uses the experiences of Lincoln's closest advisors to illuminate Lincoln's leadership. A combination of compelling artifacts, images, and audio/visual presentations introduces you to the powerful personalities who advised the President and brings to life those fateful days when a divided nation teetered on the brink… then toppled into the dark abyss of civil war…
