Special performances scheduled
October 24, 29 and 30 at Presidential Museum
SPRINGFIELD - Special dance and musical performances are scheduled at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum in Springfield on October 24, 29 and 30. The performances may be enjoyed by anyone paying the standard Museum admission fee, and take place in the Museum's central Plaza.
The Civil War Dance Society based in Metamora, Illinois will perform dances in period costumes on Saturday, October 24 at 10 and 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. This is the second visit to the museum by this troupe that is committed to sharing with the public about life in the 19th-century.
"Somebody's Singing" from the Czech Republic will perform a program of African American spirituals and other American songs on Thursday, October 29 at 1 p.m. The award-winning "Somebody's Singing" vocal octet was established in 2002 as a mixed group of high school and college students bound together primarily by two things - they are all residents of a small mountain town of Lanskroun, Czech Republic and they all share a passion for singing an advanced a cappella repertoire in English and Czech. The American tour is in conjunction with the Czech Symphony Project of St. Louis. The director is Tomas Krejca, a recent graduate of the Charles University Academy of Music in Prague.
The Singing Men, a Christian men's chorus established in 1999 from towns throughout central Illinois, will perform Friday, October 30 at 2:15 p.m. They are directed by Stephen McClarey, the long-time Director of the Decatur Park Singers and the Greater Decatur Chorale. The short concert in the museum plaza will consist of American patriotic songs and spirituals. The group has performed nearly 100 concerts around the state of Illinois.
The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum (www.presidentlincoln.org) is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. except for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Days. Admission is $10 for adults; $7 for students, senior citizens and military personnel; $4 for children ages 5 – 15; and children under age 5 are free.
